Milestones of Mentaid

1985

Founded as the Association for the Intellectually Disabled (A.I.D.) by Mrs. Iona L. Kundu and Mrs. Shukla Bhadury.

1992

Officially renamed from A.I.D. to Mentaid.

1993

Mentaid Centre formally inaugurated at Behala by D.J. Sloan, British Deputy High Commission.

1996

Vocational Training Centre established with support from NIMH, Secunderabad.

2014

Received Spandan Award (Special Jury Felicitation) by the National Trust, New Delhi.

2016

Awarded the Dr. Reeta Peshawaria–Menon National Award at the National Parents Meet, Jalandhar.

2018

Honoured as Best Institution for Outstanding Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities by the Government of West Bengal.

2019

Inauguration of the Mentaid Special School and Vocational Training Centre at Joka.

2025

Mrs. Iona Kundu honoured as Outstanding Person in the Field of Disability by the Government of West Bengal.
